Port of Nueva Palmira (Uruguay)
The port of Nueva Palmira is located on the left side of the Uruguay river, at the Km 0. There are three berths
suitable for ocean going vessels, from north to south:
Ontur terminal
this multipurpose private operated terminal is suitable for reefer and bulk and bagged cargoes.
The berth, 180 m long, can accommodate ships either in the outer or in the inner side. The depth alongside the outer berth is 10,0 m at zero datum. The inner berth, used mainly for barge operations, is 8,0 m depth at zero
datum. There is a cold store of about 43.000 cbm capacity. Also, a wood pulp warehouse of 30.000 square meters has been built close to the terminal premises.
Muelle de Ultramar:
located immediately south of the Ontur terminal, the pier, which belongs to the state, is fitted with a grain belt conveyor system, owned and operated by Messrs. Terminales Graneleras Uruguayas S.,A.(T.G.U.S.A.), able to load ships ex silo at 800 mt/hr rate. The silo capaicity is about 72.00 metric tons. The berth is 320 m long and depth alongside is 9,75 m at zero datum.

this is the southern installation of the port of Nueva Palmira. Owned and operated by Messrs.Navios. Comprises two parallel berths. The first inner one is for the barge discharge and the outer one for ocean going vessels up to 85.000 mt dwt loading. The terminal handles iron ore and manganese as well as soya beans and soya bean pellets and is fitted with grab cranes and conveyor belt system that permits the load/discharge of barges and vessels.
The discharge rate is about 6/12.000 mt per day depending on the commodity and the load rate is about 850 mt per
hour, also depending on the commodity. Silo capacity: 205.000 mt.
Midstream Transfer Stations:
Two transfer stations have been anchored recently at the Km 25 of the Uruguay river, close to Punta del Arenal.
The transfer station is a self-discharge bulk carrier fitted with two gantry cranes of 38 mt lifting capacity each and grabs of 13 cbm. She is employed for the ex-barge grain and ore cargoes transhipment. Main particulars: l.o.a.: 200,51 m beam: 30,87 m Dwt: 44.016 mt.
The transfer station “Antwerpen” is also a self-discharge bulk carrier, Dwt: 41.000 mt, l.o.a.: 199 m beam: 29,4 m. Will be employed for the similar operations as the “Don Miguel”. The sailing draft of both stations is the same as the maximum permitted draft in the Martín García Channel. Eventually, vessels loading at Punta del Arenal area may proceed via Paraná de las Palmas/Mitre channel at deeper drafts, but employing additional argentine pilots.
